Will visit Pakistan for three weeks in June 2026. Coordinated train travel with Mr. Tahir. Foreign tourists are not able to reserve train tickets on-line. Grateful to complete three train reservations. Two overnight trains (Greenline Express and Khyber Mail), and one daytime train (Awan Express). Communication was timely, professional, and thoughtful. Thank you for the wonderful service!

6 Days Swat Kalam Malam Jabba Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Islamabad to Kalam

Kalam, Swat

Your journey begins early morning in Islamabad. Our driver picks you up from your hotel and you depart for Kalam. The drive takes approximately eight to nine hours covering around 350 kilometers through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The route passes through Mardan, Mingora, and Bahrain before climbing into Upper Swat. The road follows the Swat River for most of the journey. You make short stops along the way for tea, food, and photographs.

As you climb higher toward Kalam, the landscape changes noticeably. Pine forests replace lower valley farmland. The Swat River narrows and becomes faster. Small Pashtun villages appear on both sides of the road.

You reach Kalam town in the afternoon. Kalam is the main settlement in Upper Swat and serves as the base for exploring the surrounding valleys. The town has shops, restaurants, and hotels along the main bazaar road.

After checking into Kabir’s Hotel, you have the evening free to walk through Kalam Bazaar. The bazaar has local shops selling dried fruits, honey, woolen goods, and traditional Pashtun items. The Ushu River meets the Swat River near Kalam, creating a scenic confluence point worth visiting in the evening.

Meals: Stops along the route
Hotel: Kabir’s Hotel, Kalam (Deluxe)

Day 2: Full Day Utror Valley Excursion

Utror Valley, Swat

Breakfast at your hotel starts the day. Today you travel to Utror Valley, located in Behrain Tehsil in Upper Swat.

Utror Valley branches off from Kalam and extends northeast through dense forests and alpine meadows. The valley sits at higher elevation than Kalam and receives heavy snowfall in winter. During summer and fall, the meadows turn green and wildflowers cover the hillsides.

The drive to Utror takes approximately one to one and a half hours from Kalam. The road passes through thick pine and deodar forests. The Utror River flows alongside the road throughout the journey.

Utror is a remote agricultural village with traditional stone houses and terraced fields. The local population follows centuries-old farming practices. Wheat, maize, and vegetables grow in the terraced fields during summer months.

Beyond Utror village, the valley opens into wide meadows surrounded by peaks. Several smaller valleys branch off from the main Utror Valley, each offering different views and terrain.

You spend the full day in Utror Valley exploring the meadows, forests, and river areas. You can walk through the village, interact with local residents, and take photographs of the surrounding landscape. The valley offers good walking for those who want to cover longer distances through the alpine terrain.

The return drive to Kalam takes the same time as the morning journey. You reach your hotel by evening.

Meals: Breakfast at hotel
Hotel: Kabir’s Hotel, Kalam (Deluxe)

Day 3: Jeep Tour to Upper Kalam – Osho Forest, Palogha Village and Mahodand Lake

Breakfast at your hotel before the day’s most scenic journey. Today you travel to Upper Kalam by 4×4 Land Cruiser or Prado. Regular vehicles cannot travel the rough mountain roads to Upper Kalam. The jeep tour covers three major stops: Osho Forest, Palogha Village, and Mahodand Lake.

The jeep departs from Kalam in the morning. The road immediately becomes rougher as you leave the main town. The track climbs through steep terrain with the Ushu River visible far below.

Osho Forest is a dense woodland of pine, fir, and deodar trees covering the mountainside above Kalam. The forest receives significant rainfall and snowfall, keeping it thick and green throughout the growing season. Walking through Osho Forest gives you shade, fresh air, and views between the trees of surrounding peaks. The forest floor has wild plants and streams running through it.

Palogha Village is a traditional Kohistani settlement in Upper Kalam. The village has stone and wood houses built on steep hillsides. Local people in Palogha maintain traditional lifestyles with livestock farming and small-scale agriculture. The village gives a genuine glimpse into mountain community life in Upper Swat. Few tourists visit Palogha compared to Mahodand Lake, making it a quieter and more authentic stop.

Mahodand Lake is the highlight of the Upper Kalam jeep tour. The lake sits at approximately 2,800 meters elevation surrounded by snow-capped peaks. The name Mahodand means “lake of fish” in the local Khowar language. The lake water is deep blue-green in color and stays cold throughout the year. Brown trout live in the lake and surrounding streams. Fishing is popular with local and visiting anglers.

The meadows surrounding Mahodand Lake are wide and flat with grazing horses and cattle. Local nomadic Gujjar communities bring their livestock to these high pastures during summer months. The combination of the lake, surrounding peaks, and grazing animals creates one of Pakistan’s most photographed landscapes.

You spend several hours at Mahodand Lake for relaxation and photography. Basic food and tea stalls operate near the lake during peak season.

The jeep returns to Kalam in the late afternoon. The descent gives different views of the terrain covered during the morning ascent.

Meals: Breakfast at hotel
Hotel: Kabir’s Hotel, Kalam (Deluxe)

Day 4: Kalam to Malam Jabba Ski Resort

Malam Jabba Ski Resort

Breakfast and check-out from Kabir’s Hotel. Today you travel from Kalam to Malam Jabba, covering approximately 100 kilometers through Lower Swat.

The drive back through Swat Valley gives you daytime views of the landscape you passed on Day 1. The Swat River remains visible alongside the road. You pass through Bahrain, Madyan, and Mingora before turning toward Malam Jabba.

Malam Jabba is Pakistan’s premier ski resort located at 2,804 meters elevation in the Hindu Kush mountain range. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government developed the resort and operates Pakistan’s only chairlift system. The chairlift carries visitors up the mountain regardless of season.

During winter months from December through March, Malam Jabba operates as an active ski resort with slopes for different skill levels. During summer and fall visits, the resort offers chairlift rides, zipline activities, horse riding, and scenic mountain views. The surrounding forests and meadows provide good walking opportunities.

You spend the afternoon at Malam Jabba Ski Resort using available seasonal activities. The chairlift provides aerial views of the surrounding Swat Valley and Hindu Kush peaks. The resort complex has restaurants, shops, and rest areas.

After the resort visit, you check into Frontier Tower Hotel in Malam Jabba for overnight accommodation.

Meals: Breakfast at hotel in Kalam
Hotel: Frontier Tower Hotel, Malam Jabba (Deluxe)

Day 5: Malam Jabba to Fizaghat

Fizaghat

Breakfast at Frontier Tower Hotel and check-out at 11:00 AM. Today you travel to Fizaghat in Lower Swat for your relaxation day.

Fizaghat is a small town along the Swat River between Mingora and Saidu Sharif. The name Fizaghat translates to “pleasant place” in Pashto, and the riverside location makes it popular with both tourists and locals. The Swat River at Fizaghat is wide, clear, and fast-moving with green banks on both sides.

Your hotel in Fizaghat has direct river views. You can sit and watch the river from your room or the hotel terrace. The sound of the river provides a peaceful atmosphere after days of active mountain travel.

The afternoon is completely free. You can walk through Fizaghat Bazaar, which has local shops, fruit stalls, and small restaurants along the main road. The bazaar gives you a feel for everyday life in Lower Swat.

This day is intentionally relaxed. After five days of mountain travel, the quieter Fizaghat location allows you to rest before the long drive back to Islamabad the following day.

Meals: Breakfast at hotel in Malam Jabba
Hotel: Hotel in Fizaghat (Deluxe)

Day 6: Fizaghat to Islamabad via Khanpur Dam

Khanpur Dam

Breakfast at your Fizaghat hotel and check-out. Today you drive back to Islamabad with one stop at Khanpur Dam.

The drive from Fizaghat to Khanpur Dam takes approximately three to four hours. The route follows the main Swat Expressway and Indus Highway through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Khanpur Dam sits on the Haro River near Khanpur town, approximately 40 kilometers from Islamabad. The dam reservoir covers a large area surrounded by rocky hills. The clear blue water of the reservoir offers water sports activities including jet skiing, speedboat rides, and kayaking.

You stop at Khanpur Dam for water sports activities. The dam area has operators offering various water activity options at separate cost. The surrounding rocky landscape provides different scenery from the green mountain valleys you visited earlier in the tour.

After the Khanpur Dam stop, you continue the drive to Islamabad. You reach Islamabad by evening. Your driver drops you at your hotel, completing the six-day Swat, Kalam and Malam Jabba tour package.
